Documentaries

I have realised various documentary videos to tell the stories of the people I have met.

Youth Realities

Realidades Juveniles (Youth Realities, 2018) is a series of short participatory documentaries that were co-produced with young activists aged 18-25 in Medellín´s urban margins. The aim of the series is to showcase unconventional examples of youth-led peacebuilding at the urban margins. This project has been supported by the Higher Education Innovation Fund and by the Corporación Convivamos.

LA PARCERIA

Follow ‘Ojibrotado’ as he explains and demonstrates the potential for circus art to change the urban landscape in neighbourhoods largely controlled by criminal gangs.

ra1

Four Medellín-based rappers explain how rap and hip hop have influenced their own lives and how they can transform the social fabric of the city.

IN LAK’ECH

In Lak’ech means “I am you, you are me, we are one". This is what this youth-led group aims to achieve, creating unity amidst the city’s socio-spatial fragmentation.

CASA AMOR Y CULTURA

Communities cannot thrive if the natural environment around them is not thriving. A healthy coexistence between the urban and the natural space is what this youth organization is fighting for.

Mujer joven y vidA

Follow the women of this Medellín collective as they prepare the March 8th protest and talk through issues of patriarchy in their daily reality.

We Are

Somos (We Are, 2016) is a 40-minutes participatory documentary co-produced with 24 conflict-affected adolescents aged 12-19 living in the region of Antioquia, Colombia. The documentary featured in the ethnographic documentary selection of the 2018 Biennial Meeting of the Society for Cultural Anthropology. If you would like to view a full version, please get in touch.

Shot at a crucial time in the peace negotiations between the FARC-EP and the Colombian government, ‘Somos’ shows how peace is seen from the eyes of the youngest in society. While political dialogue plays a part, peaceful coexistence at home and school is what matters the most to these young people.

Breaking the Mafia Code
